These funds will support over 77,000 dogs. Here is a closer look at the grants and recipients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DOGS RULE.<strong>\u2122<\/strong> Grants: Building Best Practices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These are $100,000 grants provided over two years to develop an innovative initiative that can become a best practice for other shelters and rescues.&nbsp;The 2024 grantees were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Dallas Pets Alive (Dallas, TX): <\/em>First half of $100,000 DOGS RULE.\u2122 grant for 2024 and 2025 to support the Foster+ program, which will modernize the existing fostering program with training scholarships, streamlined access to supplies, transportation assistance for vet visits, and grooming coverage, all aimed at reducing barriers and costs for foster parents to make fostering more appealing and accessible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA, Washington, D.C):<strong> <\/strong><\/em>Second half of $100,000 DOGS RULE.<strong>\u2122<\/strong> grant for 2023 and 2024 to support the WayStation Transport Program, a large-scale, integrated network that transports 2,500 \u2013 3,000 animals each year from overcrowded shelters to locations where adoption rates are higher. The WayStation Program also works in conjunction with HRA\u2019s disaster deployment program, allowing HRA to help shelters overwhelmed with pets needing emergency sheltering and decrease shelter populations before a storm hits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Program Development Grants: <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These grants support shelter and rescue activities that expand the operational capacity of the organization to increase dog adoption rates. The focus is on foster, transport and matching\/behavior initiatives. This year, 35 shelters and rescues received Program Development grants. The 2024 grantees were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA, New York): <\/em>$15,000 to support the ASPCA\u2019s Animal Relocation Program, which addresses the imbalance of homeless pets across regions by transporting dogs from high-population areas to shelters with greater adoption demand, using both ground and air transport to collaborate with a network of 125 shelters nationwide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Anti-Cruelty Society (Illinois): <\/em>$12,250 to enhance adoption efforts among Spanish-speaking communities in Chicago by translating all adoption materials into Spanish, providing in-person translation services, and launching a targeted campaign across the Chicago area to improve adoption awareness among the Spanish-speaking demographic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Society of Utah (Utah): <\/em>$15,000 to expand behavior support programs aimed at enhancing pet retention and preventing surrenders among dog owners. This program will specifically target adolescent and young-adult dogs and medium- to large-sized breeds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Friends of Homeless Animals (Virginia):<\/em> $15,000 to enhance dog behavior and training programs through the development of a mobile app and certification system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Forever Homes Animal Rescue (New Mexico):<\/em> $14,955 to support the purchase of more secure and durable crate banks used in transport vans, which will improve both safety and efficiency for dogs and volunteers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>High Forest Humane Society (Tennessee): <\/em>$15,000 to support the expansion of a puppy fostering program and enhance behavior training for adult dogs residing in the shelter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Society of Taos, Inc.<\/em> <em>(New Mexico):<\/em> &nbsp;$14,934 to support public awareness campaigns that will increase the foster volunteer population, as well as fund additional supplies for foster parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Animal Foundation (Nevada): <\/em>$15,000 to enhance the Foster Field Trip Program, which will reduce shelter stays and increase adoption rates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Nebraska Humane Society (Nebraska): <\/em>$15,000 to implement programs that address behavioral and enrichment needs with the ultimate goal of reducing length of stay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Spokane Humane Society (Washington): <\/em>$15,000 to support the Board and Train initiative, which addresses behavioral challenges while expanding shelter capacity by providing off-site training opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Renegade Paws Rescue (Georgia): <\/em>$12,530 to support the Mental Paws program, which provides dogs with temporary foster care to improve their wellbeing, and the Advocate program, which engages volunteers to provide enrichment and socialization for long-term resident dogs, both of which will enhance adoptability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Southern Pines Animal Shelter (Mississippi):<\/em> $15,000 to support the EmBark transport program, which has relocated over 27,000 animals to northern homes since 2016.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter (Michigan): <\/em>$15,000 to support the \u201cDeveloping Unleashed Joy\u201d program, which provides proactive behavior enrichment to shelter dogs, reducing stress-related behaviors and increasing adoptability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Caring Hearts for Canines (North Carolina): <\/em>$14,996 to support ongoing rescue programming, including partnerships with local shelters, providing medical care when needed, and facilitating adoptions or transfers to local partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Riverside Humane Society (California): <\/em>$15,000 to support the expansion of foster home programming.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Lucky Dog Animal Rescue (Virginia): <\/em>$15,000 to support Project Paws in Homes, which provides adoptive families with tailored support packages that include training resources and community connections to ensure successful adoptions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, Inc. (Illinois): <\/em>$15,000 to support expansion of transport programming.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Louie\u2019s Legacy Animal Rescue, Inc. (Ohio): <\/em>$15,000 to support foster family supply kits and enhanced transportation infrastructure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Animal Protective Association (Missouri): <\/em>$15,000 to support the Behavior and Enrichment Support Program, which provides comprehensive behavioral interventions and enrichment activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Barktown Animal Rescue (Kentucky): <\/em>$11,700 to support implementation of a 10-week novice training course for all adopted rescue dogs to foster stronger bonds and reduce return rates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Muddy Paws Rescue (New York): <\/em>$15,000 to enhance the foster program through development of a new foster matching tool to streamline placements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Harbor Humane Society (Michigan): <\/em>$10,000 to support a purchase of stackable dog crates to enhance transport efficiency and ensure the safety of animals in transit to regions with higher adoption demand.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (New York): <\/em>$15,000 to support a dog enrichment program, including a dedicated Behavior and Enrichment Program Facilitator, short-term foster excursions, sensory engagement activities, and playgroups.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area (Texas): <\/em>$15,000 to support enriched playgroup sessions, expanded foster opportunities, and personalized behavior modification plans facilitated by a dedicated Behavior Coordinator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (California): <\/em>$15,000 to support the spcaLA Staycation Program, which aims to enhance the well-being and adoption prospects of shelter dogs by providing temporary foster experiences outside the shelter environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Animal Refugee Response (California): <\/em>$14,030 to support the Positive Dog Training Program, which teaches essential commands that prepare dogs for successful adoptions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Siskiyou Humane Society, Inc. (California): <\/em>$14,579 to establish a Transfer Coordinator position to enhance the existing transport program through expanded partnerships with local and out-of-state shelters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>East Bay SPCA (California): <\/em>$15,000 to support expansion of the Behavior and Training Program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. (Pennsylvania): <\/em>$15,000 to expand the foster program, including hospice fostering and short-term fostering to relieve shelter stress.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Give a Dog a Home Rescue (Maine): <\/em>$15,000 to create an agility course that will reduce kennel stress and improve physical and mental health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Clarksdale Animal Rescue Effort &amp; Shelter, Inc. (Mississippi): <\/em>$15,000 to support the behavioral modification training program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Cantu Foundation, Inc. (California): <\/em>$15,000 to support targeted adoption promotion campaigns and community partnerships that will increase visibility and engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Seattle Humane (Washington): <\/em>$15,000 to support the Lifesaver Rescue Program, which rescues pets from shelters facing capacity challenges, ensures they receive necessary care, and places them into loving homes for adoption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Joybound People &amp; Pets (California): <\/em>$14,500 to support the expansion of the organization\u2019s foster volunteer base through streamlined onboarding and training, which will reduce onboarding time from 60 days to 14 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Animal Shelter of Sullivan County, TN (Tennessee): <\/em>$15,000 to support the implementation of comprehensive training programs as well as purchase of enrichment and agility tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Collaborative Grants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>HASS Hays County (Role Model):<\/em> $50k to support the full implementation of the HASS model, a national collaborative project facilitated by Austin Pets Alive!, demonstrating its effectiveness in addressing the challenges of traditional animal sheltering. Hays County, located on the southwestern edge of Austin, is one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. and will no longer be able to rely on contracts with nearby municipal agencies for animal sheltering after 2026. In response, the county government has championed the creation of a HASS-based pet resource center, shifting away from traditional animal services that separate people and pets. City leadership is focused on integrating animal services into a broader public health strategy, recognizing that animal welfare is a vital component of human welfare.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Humane Society of Tulsa (Transport):<\/em> $25k to support the Humane Society of Tulsa\u2019s transport program. In 2018, the Humane Society of Tulsa (HST) opened a second facility dedicated to a full-time pet transport initiative. Referred to as the \u201cHUB,\u201d it serves as a vital bridge for at-risk dogs and cats from overcrowded municipal shelters, criminal seizures, natural disasters, and other emergencies. The HUB offers veterinary care, placement services, and transportation to various locations across the U.S. Since its launch six years ago, more than 9,000 pets have found refuge at the HUB on their journey to adoptive families.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Shelter Animals Count:<\/em> $50k to support the collaboration between the Pedigree Foundation and Shelter Animals Count in a limited six-part webinar series titled \u201cDogs and Data.\u201d The series shared the latest data on dogs, showcased effective programs and practices, and discussed the systemic issues that needed to be addressed to ensure humane care and promote positive trends in lifesaving efforts during this challenging year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>APA! (Transport):<\/em> $50k to support APA!\u2019s new direct-to-adopter and foster program in Huntersville, NC. APA! will manage a Remote Adoption Center in Huntersville, facilitating the transportation of at-risk adoptable dogs from Texas directly to loving homes. This initiative builds on APA!\u2019s National Transport Program, which has saved over 9,000 animals since its launch in 2021, addressing the need to reduce the 150,000 pets euthanized each year in under-resourced Texas shelters. The RAC program will streamline operations by creating a central destination for animals, simplify transport logistics, and&nbsp;allowing APA! to reach more adopters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>PAWS Chicago: <\/em>&nbsp;$50k to support PAWS 360@CACC in reducing overcrowding at Chicago Animal Care &amp; Control (CACC), minimizing the risk of euthanasia, and providing vulnerable pets with the medical care and second chances they deserve. PAWS has partnered with CACC to establish a comprehensive public-private program that creates a safety net of lifesaving resources for Chicago\u2019s homeless and at-risk dogs. Together, PAWS Chicago and CACC are addressing the nationwide rise in homeless pets and developing a new model for community care. This initiative offers 360-degree support for animals at every stage of their shelter journey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Friends of Willimson County Animal Center:<\/em> $50k to support collaboration among three middle Tennessee county shelters\u2014Cheatham, Maury, and Williamson\u2014to establish a training program aimed at preventing unnecessary dog surrenders. Most of the funding will be used to hire trainers, ensuring that dogs receive the training at no cost to their families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disaster Relief<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PEDIGREE Foundation contributed over $270,000 to support disaster relief efforts across the country, including a $125,000 partnership with American Humane Society to support American Humane\u2019s Rescue team in addressing the growing challenges faced by animal populations due to more frequent and severe natural disasters, enabling quicker response times and ensuring that animals receive the critical care they need during crises. In addition, PEDIGREE Foundation contributed over $150,000 in disaster relief to 34 organizations facing unforeseen challenges across the country, and anticipates more grants may be funded before the end of 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mars Petcare Adoption Weekend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>PEDIGREE Foundation contributed $35,000 in the U.S. and $25,000 CAD in Canada to celebrate Mars Petcare\u2019s annual adoption weekend, covering dog adoption fees in select cities across each country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canadian Grants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In its third year, $100,000 CAD was awarded to 10 animal shelters and rescue organizations for implementing behavior, transport and safety net programs The 2024 grantees were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Northwest Territories Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to support bi-monthly veterinary clinics to spay, neuter, and treat animals to improve their health and adoption prospects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo &amp; Stratford Perth:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to expand and enhance safety net programs, including a pet pantry, veterinary outreach, and a training scholarship program. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Guelph Humane Society, Inc.:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to expand its Behaviour Training and Modification Program to improve adoptability and well-being of dogs with behavioral issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Winnipeg Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to provide behavioral training to both dogs and new owners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The Nova Scotia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to support the Moving Home program, which facilitates the transportation of animals between shelters and a new rural veterinary hospital.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Montreal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: <\/em>$10,000 CAD to support the Dog Surrender Prevention Program, which offers tailored support to dog owners at risk of surrendering their dogs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Victoria Humane Society: <\/em>$10,000 CAD to provide safe refuge and medical care to animals from remote locations across Canada.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Oakville &amp; Milton Humane Society:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to support the Advanced Behavioural Analysis and Training Program, which aims to increase dog adoptions by training staff and volunteers to manage challenging canine behaviors, thereby reducing shelter stay times and enhancing the overall well-being of the dogs, while fostering community engagement and ensuring sustainability through a train-the-trainer model. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Cochrane &amp; Area Humane Society:<\/em> $10,000 CAD to support its Advanced Behavioural Analysis and Training Program, which trains staff and volunteers to manage complex canine behavior issues more effectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) of Alberta: <\/em>$10,000 CAD to support comprehensive support for dogs and their adopters before and after adoption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2024 PEDIGREE Foundation grants were awarded to 96 different shelter and rescue organizations across the U.S. and Canada, totaling over $1.2 million to help find homes for dogs in need.
