At the end of 2022, PEDIGREE Foundation announced the 2023 Rescue Dog of the Year: Ciri, a husky pup adopted from Charleston Animal Society<\/a> in Charleston, SC. Her story is a testament to the power of community and connections, and we wanted to share her next chapter with dog lovers and supporters of the Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personal circumstances recently changed for Ciri\u2019s adopted family, and they knew that they would no longer be the best fit for her and her needs. Even in a stressful situation, Ciri\u2019s family prioritized her wellbeing, and we are so thankful they had the support they needed to rehome her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When this situation first came to light, the first step that Ciri\u2019s family took was to reach out to the team at Charleston Animal Society. Like many other shelters and rescues, the Animal Society is able to serve as a resource for pet owners with questions or in a time of need and they helped Ciri\u2019s family make the tough decision to place her for adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PEDIGREE Foundation and Charleston Animal Society are thrilled to share that Ciri has been adopted and is going to make a wonderful addition to her new family in this next chapter of her life. She is a social butterfly who loves playing tug-of-war, getting belly rubs and going on car rides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owner surrenders are a common occurrence in shelters and rescues for a variety of reasons. Personal circumstances may change, such as in Ciri\u2019s case. Owners also often cite behavior concerns or financial limitations, and the shelter or rescue can be a resource to recommend next steps. The goal is always to keep people and pets together, and shelters and rescues want nothing more than to help write those success stories. They are a key piece of your dog\u2019s journey, and that connection doesn\u2019t have to end the day you take your pup home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
